The purpose of this article is to explain the differences between the Platinum and Enterprise Editions of ScaleArc.
The differences between the Platinum and Enterprise Editions of ScaleArc are as follows:
ScaleArc Platinum Edition
- The ScaleArc Platinum Edition comes with an Automatic Failover feature.
ScaleArc’s automatic failover framework provides automated failover with no application disruption. Our failover architecture supports multiple database topologies, enabling fast and non-disruptive replication-aware failover with reduced complexity. This auto failover feature achieves database availability for a cluster by advertising and managing a floating virtual IP for the application servers to connect to, thus abstracting the individual database servers. With ScaleArc, the application servers need not be notified of a database failure, so no changes in connection strings or the app are needed. ScaleArc provides a built-in auto failover module that detects database server failure, handles replication changes if needed, and reroutes client SQL traffic. The failover module offers templates for well-known designs, such as a Master/Slave setup where a Slave is promoted when a Master fails. The module also supports custom configurations for other replication schemes. ScaleArc handles the SQL client traffic routing in case of failure seamlessly by terminating any active connections to the failed database server and routing new connections to the new Master/Primary server.
- The ScaleArc Platinum Edition comes with a End to End Encryption (SSL) feature.
In ScaleArc 3.5 and later, it is possible to encrypt traffic between the client and ScaleArc as well as between ScaleArc and the server. This feature is separate from encrypted login traffic which is available in the Enterprise license.
- The ScaleArc Platinum Edition comes with a Query Routing (Sharding) feature.
Query routing is a process of directing user queries to appropriate servers by constraining the search space through query refinement and source selection. Sharding is a type of database partitioning that separates very large databases into smaller, faster, more easily managed parts called data shards. Within the Platinum Edition of ScaleArc, you can create query routing rules to specify the shard to which the incoming query will be forwarded. Any changes on the database servers will not affect the client configuration as those changes will be handled by the load balancer.
ScaleArc Enterprise Edition
- Does not come with the ScaleArc Auto Failover feature
- Does not come with the ScaleArc Query Routing feature
- Does not come with the ScaleArc End to End Encryption feature
- Has 1 GB less Caching than the Platinum Edition of ScaleArc
