OVERVIEW

How does the Database health monitoring works for an Always-ON Cluster in ScaleArc.

DESCRIPTION

In case of an always-on cluster, this is how the Database health monitoring works:

  • Both the Always on monitoring service and the Health Monitor service from the ScaleArc Core monitor the Health of the databases simultaneously.
  • If AWO monitor detects PRIMARY server as DOWN we mark the health down immediately. This is done to ensure that no write queries are sent to the Primary server when it is down which can result in errors in the application.
  • If the Core health monitor service detects the health down, we will retry for the number of Health check attempts configured in the ScaleArc setting and if we still the find the DB as DOWN then we will mark the DB DOWN.
  • The Health of the DBs will be marked down if any one of the service marks it down and it will be marked UP only if both the services find it to be UP.
